Keith:
I'm going to play the ``Late And Now Irrelevant Replying Game'':

With regards to cabling, a roll of LX ( Electrical Insulating?) tape works wonders. Well, at least it does for storage. If you're intending to keep them stationary for long periods of time, it might be worth curling them up, and tieing with a little LX tape to keep them bundled. Or, tie cables together with LX tape at strategic points.

As for CD storage, I find CD cases can scratch the contents. I think this might be due to the insertion. If you insert one in at an angle to the plane of the pocket, the edge of the CD tends to scratch the one on the other side. I suppose the answer to this would be to use half the pockets, and fill the other half with inlays. Wish I'd thought of that.

I must be bored... posted on two journals in one day. It may have something to do with my imminent move to Cambriolidge. Farewell, Reading.

While I was at your house and you were not I spent a night sleeping using one unzipped sleeping bag as a duvet and another unzipped sleeping bag as a sheet. That was lovely, and is probably very similar to what you are describing.

Mossy:
Have you ever tried fastening two identical sleeping bags together to form a double? That's the only configuration of sleeping bags i can stand to sleep in, myself.. One on its own feels like I am doing a progress through the guts of a boa constrictor.

Having thought about that a little more...
no.
Man boobies are NOT what I need.

Also kiddies flasks leak like kiddies, so I won't be buying one of those - I will very likely buy the alarm clock and thermometer next week though.

jimmy:
Thanks Toby, that's *exactly* what I needed.

Toby:
Man boobies?

Anyway, in response to Jimbly's shopping list:
“Some kind of water container”
Have you tried the "Back to School" range of Woolies, BHS or the like for kiddies' bomb-proof flasks? They might be slightly less breakable and probably a good deal cheaper than most other solutions.

Digital thermometer
Boots digital thermometer - 9 quid

Alarm clock
Yes, I have one at home. Argos usually sells them. This may well be one - I can't tell as the "description" isn't :P The Argos printed catalogues are generally better for information.

CD storage
They're perfectly good cases, though not exactly protective if you insist on dropping or sitting upon said case. Dave has several and they appear to have lasted him fine. They're best suited to keeping large collections of infrequently used discs in, such as backups or films. If you want frequent access to your CDs, may I suggest getting a whole bunch of cheap double jewel cases and a freestanding CD rack? ASDA in town does cheaper, smaller ones.

Retractable cabling
Not played with them, myself. The data ones should be fine, but I'd avoid the analogue audio cables if you're at all picky about audio quality.

Sleeping bag
Picky bugger, aren't you? Errm... dunno. Sleeping bags don't come in that configuration, AFAIK. I suffer the same problem with overheating if it's any consolation - lying on top of the bag until you've part-frozen yourself, then getting in to it is about the only solution I've come up with. There are professional, light-weight sleeping bags with zip sides available, but the prices are no doubt astronomical. You'd still bake though :P

Universal power adaptors
You can usually only get AC->DC universal adaptors, as there are increasingly few low voltage AC devices out there. If you really need low-voltage AC, you may well have to order a new power brick for the device in question from a parts supplier - either the manufacturer or somewhere like RS. That's my experience anyway - YMMV.

(Jimmy takes over the Warbeck for two pages or so for his own personal gain)

I could do with some advice about buying things. I've been trying to figure what essential things I don't have yet (things like sellotape... or string... or blu-tac... or one of those things that splits one phone socket into two). There's a few things I'm not entirely sure about what to buy, though, and could do with some ideas. What I want here is recommendations of stuff you've bought/used that works well, and ideas for things I haven't thought about yet.

Some kind of water container

I bought a thermos about two months ago, thinking that this had solved all my fluid containment problems. After a fortnight or so of fairly gentle use I returned to my bag to find the glass bottle inside had shattered and everything around it was very wet. Keeping the water *inside* the container is really my big expectation of a water container, so I was obviously rather disappointed. Is the best thing I can use for keeping fluids in really just empty coke bottles? They've definitely got "cheap" and "easily replacable" going for them.

Thermometer

You're probably not going to be able to help me here, but on the offchance: I need a digital thermometer so I can tell if I am actually ill or not when I think I am. (This is a very useful thing to know.) Additionally I would like it to be as near to "practically indestructable" as possible, as I tend to destory anything that isn't pretty quickly.

Alarm clock

Does such a thing exist as an alarm clock that runs off mains if it has a mains supply and batteries if it doesn't, or am I going to have to do what everyone else does and use a mobile? (Additional bonus points if the alarm is *loud*.)

CD storage

I want to buy one of those wallet things. How reliable are these? Can you easily break/scratch the CDs in them? I have broken CDs in half accidentally (and with very little force) before, and would like not to in future.

Retractable cabling

Anyone know anything about stuff like these? I have a lot of cabling, and intend to have more, and it has a tendency to get very, very tangled. A convenient way to sort this would be retracting cabling. If you've looked at that page though, it's very expensive. I've been thinking about buying a cheap one and changing the RJ11 cable that comes with it for other types of cable. A somewhat cheaper idea I came up with was buying a load of cheap clear plastic pencil cases, and putting one cable in each (that way I can see what's in them, they're kept compact, and they don't tangle with each other).

Sleeping bag

I have rather odd requirements for a sleeping bag that don't really fit with the usual purposes they are sold for. I need one for use indoors (when I go round other peoples' houses), and which keeps me as cool as possible (because I heat up very quickly in a sleeping bag and can start to cook, which means I don't get any sleep and am not happy in the morning). The one thing I do want that is normal is that it should be as small as possible and as light as possible (my current one is a massive 1970s thing that takes up the volume of my entire rucksack).

Also, anyone know anything about those power bricks that output loads of different voltages and you can put different ends onto depending on what you want to power? I've got at least one device that needs it to do AC->AC, so if it can do that, that's a big plus.
