Stranger than truth!

Did you know?

If you made a pancake the size of Bulgaria...

... you'd have a bugger of a time cooking it.

Toby:
That's... special. I knew Intel's server-grade net cards did daft things in their default configuration, but I didn't know they were that daft. I'll tell JD - that'll make his day ;)

In other news, have any of the other Warbeckers woken up yet? I see we have myself, cheeseybob and Mr. Porter on deck at present. Or at least, floating apathetically in the vague vicinity of the deck, in utter defiance of gravity. Do we need to break out the sharp pointy sticks, crash mats and butter?

Aw.

Did you know you can administer a non-maskable interrupt via IPMI-over-LAN?

I've never been quite so tempted to run a command over a large netblock with default username/password...

Toby:

As I sit in my chair,
Considering deeply,
Getting coders for free,
(Or at least, very cheaply,)
For finishing a project,
That's no longer neat,
The code, now a hairball,
Is far from complete.

I'd rather redo it,
Start things from scratch,
But the deadline's approaching,
The mess can't be scrapped,
And I'm forced to hack in,
In this heap of routines,
A host of new features,
The client now "needs".

Feh, I felt the need :P

Toby:
Indeed. The new Bloggular intar-face required me to prove I was a human being (or an approximation thereof) before it would let me log in.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the wording and layout of said CAPTCHA request. It initially looked like I'd entered the wrong username or password, but on re-reading the page I ascertained that it was probably just a security measure. Nowhere on the page did it clearly explain that my username and password may have been correct but it just needed me to prove my sentience.

In future I may complain to companies utilising CAPTCHA technologies, indicating that this may be discriminatory towards golems and other such creatures with disputed levels of sentience.

Mark Porter:
Now the new blogger's finished being an arse...

It is I, Vroomfondel

We thank you for your co-operation
