Lidna:
ooo... liking the sound of Indiana Jones :D

Lidna:
LOL

jimmy:
Karting booked - Saturday 24th, please be there by 5.15pm. It is £32 each - probably easiest to bring it along on the day and give it to me then, if anyone wants to bank transfer though give me a shout.

For those who have not been before: note that it is a *very* good idea to wear soft shoes while doing this. Open toe footwear and high heels are banned. You'll get given a helmet and race suit and gloves when you get there so whatever clothes you are wearing will be protected.

We get 15 minutes practice to get used to the karts and the course and then a 15 min race.

Anyone want to see Indiana Jones and the Crystal Maze (or whatever it is) that day also? Could meat up in soton earlier in the day for that and then bus over to bishopstoke for the karting... let me know what you think.

jimmy:
Awesome.

If anyone wants to attempt to entice anyone else along, give me a shout before Monday lunchtime (either on here or msn) so I know the numbers for booking.

Lidna:

I've discovered Casanova :-D ...

Lidna:
Hello people,

sorry, i know, haven't posted in ages! Then when I wanted to post last week I couldn't remember which e-mail address I used (thanks to Rob for your help).

That weekend sounds fine to me :-) Never been go-karting before so you let me loose at your own risk ;-)

Toby:
Weekend of the 24th sounds good to me.

I'm theoretically busy partaking in exercise on the 17th/18th - bicycle outing in the New Forest. You lot don't need to know this, but having it written down somewhere I check reasonably often might help me remember it.

On that note, I might try adding communal calendar capabilities to the Warbeck. It might help in our respective human herding exercises. Or not. Just an idea.

Weekend after after after next?

That is... the 17th 24th?

I thought the Gosportshire one looked slightly better than the Eastleigh one, it's a longer track and it's more interesting. If eastleigh is easier to get to (probably tbh) then we can do that, it's the same company either way.

Rob agrees he is coming OR ELSErubbish and unable to remember when he is on call

Toby:
Oooh... mark me down as a "yes". I haven't gone go-karting in quite a while. There's also a similar establishment for modified lawnmower driving in Eastleigh, though I don't know how good that one is.

I considered trying to hold a birthday event this weekend, then decided that was a bloody silly idea. Everyone, predictably, has organized other places to be - it being a Bank Holiday on Monday. I decided to just head home and visit the parentals instead. I'll consider scheduling piss-ups and hijinks later in the week/month/year when more people are available.

On that note, I propose we have a Warbeck-flavoured social sometime soon. I for one haven't seen either the Jimbly or Cheesester in a while and it would be nice to confirm that I'm not yet conversing with entirely virtual entities. You both still have some approximation to analogue/physical forms, yes? When are persons, various, available next? Pimped garden tool racing is optional.

jimmy:
anyone interested?

If you made Bulgaria the size of a pancake...

... you'd have a lot of very, very surprised Bulgarians.

Thursday, May 1

Toby:
In the news today, several large Canadian producers have signed a contract to produce the maple syrup required to fill the so-called "Bulgarian pancake".

Economists have praised the deal, citing a predicted 65% decrease in unemployment across the primary syrup-producing areas of the country and a noticeable increase in the Gross Domestic Product of the nation as a whole. They warn, however, that the jobs generated by the partnership are liable to be very shortlived and workers should not look to the partnership for long-term employment prospects.

Ecologists, meanwhile, are up-in-arms over the plans. The production partnership aims to harvest just under 96% of the total managed maple forest in the country to fulfil the shipment and the production method required to extract such quantities of sap is likely to kill many younger specimens. Predictions from the Canadian Horticultural Society indicate the Canadian maple may even be pushed onto the country's endangered species list as a result. The loss of younger plants and the use of heavy industrial equipment could destroy the woodland habitat of many birds and small mammals and cause localised extinction of many species already at risk.

Local focus groups have also expressed their concern over the possible impact to rural communities. Many of the plantations targeted by the partnership are small, family owned businesses who sell their products to the larger food production companies. The prospect of introducing many non-local workers into these small communities to "make up the numbers" has been the cause of heated debate, especially amongst the older generations.

Government officials have issued a statement assuring the public that the partnership's practices will be closely monitored to ensure the minimum of disruption to both communities and the environment.

I do so like writing utter rubbish ;)
